How Much Does a Proposal Cost in Greece? A 2026 Breakdown

Proposal packages in Greece run from €350 to nearly €3,000, and the gap has surprisingly little to do with how good the moment is. Here is what each part actually costs and which parts are worth paying for.

Almost nobody publishes a straight answer to this, which is why the question gets asked so often. So here is one, with real numbers.

A quick exclusion first: the ring is not in this article. It is usually the largest figure by a wide margin, it varies more than everything else combined, and it has nothing to do with where you are standing when you ask. Everything below is about the moment itself.

What the market charges

Santorini is the most heavily documented proposal market in Greece, which makes it a useful benchmark even if you are proposing elsewhere. One established Santorini planner publishes these:

PackagePrice
Photographer only€350
"Flying dress" photoshootfrom €450
Private waterfront venue€800
Semi-private Oia sunset spot€1,200
Private terrace€1,300
Private proposal dinner€1,612
Yacht cruise with dinner€2,900

Another Santorini operator starts its engagement packages at €1,750. So the working range for an organised proposal in Greece is roughly €350 at the bare minimum to €3,000 at the top, with most falling between €800 and €1,600.

What is striking, reading down that list, is how much of the price is location rental. The €800 to €1,300 packages are largely paying for the right to stand somewhere specific at sunset. That is a real cost in Santorini, where the good viewpoints are owned, crowded, and monetised.

The components, priced separately

Photography — €250 to €600. The platforms publish roughly €255 for thirty minutes up to €575 for two hours in Crete. We wrote about how to choose one and what to ask, because this is the component where a bad choice does the most damage.

The spot — €0 to €1,300. In Santorini, a lot. In Crete, often nothing at all. This is the single biggest structural difference between the two islands and the main reason a Cretan proposal costs less for the same evening.

Styling — €100 to €400. Flowers, candles, lanterns, letters. Our own floral arrangement is €95 and illuminated letters €60, which is broadly the market rate. It rises quickly if you want an arch or a full installation.

Dinner — €60 to €250 a head. A private proposal dinner is where budgets quietly double. A private chef in Crete runs roughly €60 to €120 per person; a dedicated private-dining proposal venue is considerably more.

A boat — €600 to €3,000. Lovely, weather-dependent, and the component most likely to be cancelled on you in July or August when the meltemi blows.

Why Crete works out cheaper

Not because anything is lower quality. Because you are not renting a view.

Crete's best proposal spots — headlands, coves, the terrace of the villa you have already paid for — are free to stand on. Strip out the €800 to €1,300 that Santorini charges for access to a caldera edge and the same evening costs materially less, with better privacy and fewer strangers in the background of the photographs.

The trade-off is honest: Santorini's caldera at sunset is genuinely one of the great views on earth, and if that specific backdrop is the point, Crete cannot replicate it. But if what you actually want is somewhere beautiful, private and yours, Crete gives you more of it for the money.

What we charge, for comparison

The Proposal is €1,250. That is the full evening: everything set up in advance and out of sight, floral and candle styling, illuminated letters, champagne on ice, a personalised message or the proposal itself played on screen, a host, and then a private cinema under the stars on your own terrace afterwards. A photographer for the first hour is €399 on top.

Starlight for Two is €690 if you want the evening without the full proposal staging — which some people prefer, having done the asking privately on a beach that afternoon.

We sit deliberately in the middle of the Greek market rather than at the top of it, and the reason is structural rather than generous: we are not paying rent on a viewpoint.

What to skip

The drone. Frequently offered, frequently regulated, and the footage is almost always less moving than a close, still photograph of two faces.

Fireworks. Legally fraught in much of Greece, alarming for local dogs and neighbours, and they end the intimacy of the moment rather than extending it.

The most expensive package on any menu. In this market the top tier is usually a boat, and a boat is the thing most likely to be cancelled by wind.

Anything that requires your partner to be somewhere specific at a specific minute without arousing suspicion. The logistics of getting someone unknowingly to a rented terrace at 19:35 have ruined more proposals than bad weather.

The part worth spending on

What people remember is rarely the setting. It is the twenty minutes afterwards — the phone calls, the disbelief, the sitting down somewhere quiet together while it sinks in.

Most proposal packages end at the moment. Ours is built the other way round: the moment happens, and then the evening continues on your own terrace with your film and nobody else there, rather than everyone standing about wondering where to go for dinner.

If you are working out timings, the month-by-month sunset table is the place to start. And when you have a date, tell us — we will work the whole evening backwards from it and say honestly whether it hangs together.
